L-Lysine
i-lysine2
L-Lysine is an essential amino acid (our body cannot produce it naturally, and we must obtain it from our diet). Legumes (beans, peas and lentils), meat, cheese, fish, nuts, soybeans, tofu and eggs are rich in L-Lysine. It has been proven to inhibit the normal replication of the Herpes simplex virus (HSV), thus shortening the normal course of the disease. If taken daily, it may inhibit the onset of new outbreaks of herpes simplex and possibly herpes zoster (shingles), or reduce their duration or severity. Herpes simplex is a virus which infects the human in two strains, HSV-1 (usually oral/facial) and HSV-2 (usually genital). Herpes can be transmitted by direct contact of a lesion that is active and shedding the virus, causing the first or “primary” infection. Subsequent infections or “outbreaks” are called “secondary” or recurrences. L-lysine has also been used topically as an anti-inflammatory aid to relieve skin pain such as those following episiotomy (a cut near the vagina and outer skin surgically performed to assist in childbirth).  This ingredient is in Aloeviate.
